Feeling a little moody or blue lately? The season’s effect on our mood is REAL! During the winter, days are shorter, so we experience more darkness during our waking hours. Both sunlight and darkness have been shown to boost certain hormones levels in your body.
Unlike sunlight, which boosts serotonin, a.k.a. your “happiness hormone,” though, darkness releases melatonin — a hormone that tells your body it’s time to sleep! Add some freezing-cold weather, and you’ve got the perfect recipe to stay huddled under a big pile of blankets all night. Brr!
If you’re trying to beat the winter yucks, here are some easy ways to get a dose of sunshine, even when it’s dark out:
Have a solo dance party
Make a playlist of your favorite upbeat songs and title it, “Beating the Winter Blues.” Try to keep up with the fast-paced tempo and get loose with your moves — dancing has been shown to improve your mood and decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression!
Try color therapy
The hues we come in contact with day-to-day have an impact: colors can stimulate or calm. Buy bright floral bouquets for your home, or make it a point to wear bright clothes on blah days. Red, yellow, neon green, and orange are all colors that can energize your mood.
Add Sundrops to any bev
Drop into any drink to enjoy 5 mgs of nano emulsified organic hemp extract — that means it’s easier for your body to absorb and makes taking a low amount of CBD feel like a lot more! There’s a reason we call it liquid sunshine… *wink.*
